Workshop Description

This one-day workshop will introduce you to the versatile technique of printing onto fabric using a heat transfer printing press and disperse dye.

You will experiment with creating hand painted, cut paper collage, and wax resist designs  to transfer on to synthetic fabrics, as well as transferring metallic film onto fabric.  You will also have the opportunity to mix your own dyes, experiment with overlaying colours and create stencils using natural objects.

This process is fairly quick and so you will have time to experiment and develop your ideas throughout the day.

Workshop dates are arranged at your convenience and have a maximum number of two students, so you’ll get plenty of use of the studio equipment and bespoke tuition throughout the day.

By the end of the course you will go away with a number of printed textile samples and will have learnt the skills to print onto fabric using the heat transfer press independently.

Workshop level

The course is designed for complete beginners or those wishing to refresh their skills

Materials & resources

Please bring along some sketches, images or ideas as a starting point for your print designs.

You can transfer metal foils onto most fabrics including leather, suede and cotton so bring along some of these fabrics too if you want to try.

All other materials such as drawing materials, brushes, paper, scissors, dyes and foils, etc are supplied.
